Pioneering British Hip-Hop crew The Sindecut (featuring founding member DJ Fingers) and New York-based Geordie, singer-songwriter Ijeoma announce their collaboration with the dynamic jungle artist Tyke. Tyke has crafted a masterful remix of ‘Soldier’, a stand-out track from their debut album ‘Late’.
Tyke’s fresh take on ‘Soldier’ sonically breathes new life into the track. Tyke infuses the song with a dynamic energy that propels it into uncharted territory. He artfully marries the reggae and dub elements whilst maintaining the essence of the original.
Commenting on the upcoming remix, Karl, aka DJ Fingers, expressed, “Tyke is one of those artists that on hearing his music, we wished we could have created it. I obviously couldn’t. He’s doing great things, and we are proud to announce the release of his masterful interpretation of ‘Soldier’.”
The original ‘Soldier’ introduces reggae and dub elements into the trip-hop atmospheric vibe of the ‘Late’ album. The album features DJ Fingers’ trademark larger-than-life drums, cinematic hip-hop production, and Ijeoma’s magnetic vocals, creating a captivating sonic journey.
DJ Fingers, a foundational figure in the UK hip-hop landscape, is celebrated as one of the first turntablists in the UK. His contributions were showcased in the iconic 1997 BBC documentary ‘Bad Meaning Good,’ which explored UK hip-hop culture. Influenced by the likes of Grandmaster Flash, Kool Herc, Grand Mixer DST, DJ Whizz Kid, and DJ Jazzy Jay – Fingers’ dedication to the art of DJing and his commitment to the “Knowledge of Self” mantra has consistently driven his creative projects.
Ijeoma first began songwriting as a child using an old stereo for tape-to-tape recordings: “I would switch cassettes back and forth, plugging in a mic to layer vocal harmonies”. Later, she started performing her material at hip-hop and drum and bass nights on open mics. First in Newcastle and then in London, which led her to meet DJ Fingers.
Tyke, whose moniker reflects his determination and unyielding spirit, is a force to be reckoned with in the drum n bass world. From his early days as a graffiti artist to his current status as a leading DnB artist, Tyke’s distinctive style has continued to captivate audiences. Signed to the esteemed Playaz brand, Tyke has enjoyed widespread support from industry luminaries, including DJ Hype and Pascal. His relentless dedication to fine-tuning his studio skills has solidified his position in the Drum n’ Bass and jungle scene.
With a schedule that includes worldwide tours, major festival appearances, high-profile EP releases on Playaz, and collaborations with respected vocalists, Tyke remains deeply committed to his craft. His originality and playful edge, evident in tracks such as ‘Infected Headphones,’ ‘Drug Pusher,’ and ‘Buzzards,’ set him apart from his peers.
