The Skuzzies Return With New Single

clip_image002[8]Malcontents of the modern age, The Skuzzies are a London-based trio who have established themselves as arch-exponents of feral melodies. Now signed to Easy Action records their new single is chalked in for a June release.

The band debuted in 2004 at the infamous Babyshambles riot, where they played in front of 4000 people. When the crowd went crazy and bouncers lost their tempers, the event made the news and The Skuzzies were heroes for a night.

Homelessness and dissolution took their toll, however, until 2006 when lead singer/ guitarist Jerome Alexandre started playing with drummer Nick Le West. The line-up was finalised with the addition of Laura Clarke on bass. An EP of early recordings produced by Gordon Raphael received radio play in Europe, the US and the UK.

The majority of 2010 was taken up with working on their self-titled debut album. By the summer, indie label Easy Action had come on board and The Skuzzies were hard at work on their 10 track platter, a mixture of crowd pleasing stalwarts ‘Dissatisfied’ ‘Hungry As A Hound’ and ‘More Than This’ rubbing shoulders with newer more emotive material such as ‘Heartache Accelerates’ and ‘Are You Sleeping?’ The album is due for release in August 2011 and features a track with Peter Doherty on vocals.

Alexandre describes the single, “Dissatisfied,” as an honest statement. “I would occasionally watch a music channel and see these bands that get praised for their lyrical content but are, in fact, saying a whole lot of nothing.” The single reflects real life, exploring drug addiction and desperation, introducing real characters ‘Stick Thin Joe’ and ‘Twitching Tom’ from Alexandre’s own South London upbringing. Written on the cusp of England’s recession, “Dissatisfied” provides a raw look at building tension.

Tipped by ‘Artrocker’ as a band to ‘Watch out for,’ hailed by Strokes producer, Gordon Raphael, ‘As one of the best new groups in London,’ and having won the approval of Clash icon, Mick Jones, The Skuzzies have established themselves as one of the most exciting live acts on the gig circuit.

To mark the launch of their CD on Easy Action, The Skuzzies will be embarking on a cross-country tour, including a ‘Little Episodes’ gig at Torriano in Kentish Town, London on Friday June 4th
