After supporting Sophia Stel and setting the internet alight with his first project with intention, Re:, The Sound Chalk Makes returns this week with indietronica party anthem ‘CSM For Bullshit’. Operating under the MO to “make London fun again”, he enlists NYC’s Seven Blair Angels and Mexico City’s Pato6p to take over the city. Celebrating with Asian Paper Collective at Colour Factory alongside The Twins and Varg²™ on 22nd May followed by an invite-only house party on May 30th, The Sound Chalk Makes is delivering on his promise.
Born in San Francisco and raised in India with emergent electronic collective MumbaiAndarground alongside an entire internet’s worth of influence, he is anchored to London but his sound is borderless. With nothing more than an [untitled] link loaded with demos and a self-filmed video snippet for ‘Manmade Manmaid’ on Instagram, 20-year-old Kabir Parekh attracted the attention of Welcome.Jpeg – a “living archive” of digital culture – and the tastemaking NYC label Anemoia who launched The Hellp.
Drawn to his shapeshifting sounds which manage to edit the modern world’s unending flow of information and voice into something cohesive and collective, his tracks weave aesthetic touchstones of his coming-of-age in a way that feels like he’s tapping into the soundtrack of his generation’s subconscious.
After the release of his latest project Re: earlier which introduced the scale of his shape-shifting identities, ‘CSM for Bullshit’ is The Sound Chalk Makes at his most floor-filling; a pop star’s presence over a dislocating, digital whirlwind.
