TRAAMS Release FatCat Session
New Single ‘Fibbist/Swimming Pool’ Out 9th Dec + Support Big Deal
Debut album ‘Grin’ out now
“11 tracks of tunefully deranged, remarkably giddy guitar-pop that reimagines early Modest Mouse as a Krautrock-fluent crew” SPIN
“distorted DIY for the people” Loud & Quiet
“precisely the kind of noisy kraut-tinged rattler you might suck from the brain of producer and Hookworms frontman, MJ” The Line of Best Fit
“Stu Hopkins’ flat, nasal honk is fetching enough from a melodic standpoint, yet it’s those brief pockets where the guitars go silent amidst the steady drums that are just as hooky.” Pitchfork
“Hints of Wire’s art school sensibilities roll into dubby Fugazi and Les Savy Fav eccentricities, occasionally falling into a kraut/psych-pop ditch and getting thoroughly mucky” The Fly
“There’s a pop intelligence at work… as much as a delight in flexibility and texture” The Brighton Source
Following on from supporting Wire in Europe, Sussex post punkers TRAAMS have released an intense FatCat live session of their upcoming single ‘Fibbist’.
Watch the band’s searing version of ‘Fibbist’ here, as recorded by Bowlegs/4 Eyes TV:
‘Fibbist’ b/w ‘Swimming Pool’ will be released as a double A single on the 9th December through FatCat Records.
The noisy trio released their debut album ‘Grin’ end of September, stream it here as originally premiered by SPIN.
November also brings a series of support slots with Big Deal, with TRAAMS accompanying the duo to Bath, Swansea and London’s Cargo on the 27th November. TRAAMS’ live show is an intense sweaty experience that’s fast building their reputation and leading the likes of Drowned in Sound to proclaim “They’re phenomenal: a series of scuzzy garage-rock masterpieces, interspersed with Krautrock jams that repeatedly push you to your breaking point.” Full details of all TRAAMS upcoming dates are below.
Watch the grungy video for ‘Flowers’ as directed by James Burgess (The History Of Apple Pie, Flamingods):
Recorded throughout 2012 and 2013 with producers Rory Atwell and MJ from Hookworms, the aptly-titled ‘Grin’ is eleven tracks of pure distorted joy.
Starting off with ‘Swimming Pool”s sonorous, atmospheric welcome, ‘Grin’ twists and turns it’s way through shards of hooky indie pop on ‘Flowers’ and ‘Fibbist’, plunging into darker krautrock depths on ‘Klaus’, ‘Head Roll’ and the title track. The album successfully captures the raw energy of TRAAMS’ frenzied live performances, as witnessed at The Great Escape, Tallin Music Week, Beacons Festival and whilst gigging with Wire, Parquet Courts, FIDLAR and Hookworms. Excitement spread about TRAAMS in the run-up to the album release, with ‘Grin’ bringing in cover feature support from their adopted hometown magazine The Brighton Source and plaudits from NME, The Fly, Fake DIY, The Line of Best Fit, Loud & Quiet and Pitchfork.
