TThe long-awaited Dad Record, "You Got Me Singing" is ready for you to hear.
HOLA COMRADES!!
HERE WE GO…
after TEN MONTHS of being in the incubator, this album is finally GETTING BORN.
I’m so, so proud of it. my dad on guitar, me on piano, us singing’ together, TWELVE BEAUTIFUL SONGS,
a few extra instruments here and there, a wonderful guest pedal steel player named rob stein…
it was engineered by Joe costa, the same engineer who worked tirelessly on “Who Killed Amanda Palmer” in 2008.
Mari apopover from brain pickings.org wrote the back liner notes.
this album is unlike any I’ve made. it’s subtle, it’s emotional, it’s very peaceful, and if NOTHING ELSE, when i play it on my phone late at night, it puts a baby to sleep.
the fact that this is not only my first real album post-baby, but that it’s my first fully PATRON-backed project makes me double-rainbow, squeak-and-moan-in-ecstatic-glee-level happy. you guys. IT’S WORKING!!! I CAN STILL DO THINGS!
AND I AM FEEDING A BABY ALL AT THE SAME TIME.
the reviews are rolling in and they’re GREAT.
“All in all, You Got Me Singing is wonderfully curated and beautifully executed, with just the right amount of imprecision in the pretty-much simultaneity of when the two sing together. Their voices often compliment each other beautifully – particularly on ‘Winked, Blinked and Nod’, which sounds brilliantly mysterious in their low voices – and their harmonies are often interesting – see ‘Skye Boat Song’. There is just so much to love about this album.”
and this just came in…from the UK metro:
here’s the track list:
1. You Got Me Singing (Leonard Cohen and Patrick Raymond Leonard)
2. Wynken, Blyken and Nod (Lucy and Carly Simon)
3. Again (Melanie Safka)
4. 1952 Vincent Black Lightning (Richard John Thompson)
5. Louise Was Not Half Bad (Tom T Hall, written by Paul Siebel)
6. Black Boys On Mopeds (Sinéad O’Connor)

dudes.
I’M SO HAPPY.
as usual, i wrote a whole, long backstory on my website about the making of this record…including photos, a michael-pope-made documentary video from the recording studio, and more.
the link to the forever-page for this record, “you got me singing”, is HERE…and that includes everything about WHERE AND HOW TO BUY THE RECORD…
it’s available on CD, 180 gram black vinyl, and via every digital platform known to man (but of course, i’d prefer if you got the album via patreon… more on that below).
a note from my future-of-music desk:
in the spirit – always – of keeping everything as free/cheap as possible,
the album is on bandcamp for ONE DOLLAR+.
a little music biz lesson:
that’s to pay royalties to the songwriters whose songs we covered. every songwriter gets about $.09 every time someone downloads our cover of their song.
there are 11 songs we need to pay for (“the skye boat song” is free use), so that brings us to $0.99, which means we make one penny per album, unless people on bandcamp add more to their tip-jar.
that’s all possible for us to do, of course, because the CAPITAL TO MAKE THE RECORD came from the 7,000+ people on PATREON,
and earlier this morning, we charged our thousands of patrons a few bucks apiece (on average) so that we could send this music out into the universe as free as possible.
if you’re a patron: man oh man…THANK YOU. WE DID IT. THIS IS OUR REAL FIRST PATREON-FUNDED ALBUM!!
this morning, you hopefully already got your patron-only email (and if you’re a $3+ patron, your download link).
i cannot tell you how much it means to me to have this little family of true patrons supporting my work.
if you’re not a patron: it’s not too late…you can JOIN THE PATREON NOW HERE for as little as a buck a month (or even less, sometimes) and that’ll open you up to a world of links of all projects present and past.
AND THERE ARE SO MANY MORE *THINGS* COMING!! i’m currently working on the mixes and artwork for a collaboration album with my hero, edward ka-spel, that’s going to come out this spring…and it’s SO GOOD. i’m on fire, guys.
if you do join the patreon instead of paying for the album on bandcamp, use THIS direct link to get the download code. (this link will work once you’re signed into your account).
