DC Podcast Episode 2 is out today and features Dame Sue Black, a Scottish forensic anthropologist and the current President of the Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland. Becky approached Dame Sue after reading her autobiographical book All That Remains: A Life in Death.

Their conversation covered many fascinating areas of Dame Sue’s life, notably her work identifying bodies and the causes of their deaths in war zones and mass grave sites and her belief that this life is all we have and we should make the most of every day we’re given.

Today’s episode of the Dead Club podcast features me (Becky) talking to forensic anthropologist Dame Professor Sue Black #damesueblack. I had heard Sue talking about her work on a Radio 4 programme and then read her book, ‘All That Remains’ and was absolutely captivated, and determined to talk to her for this project. She is an incredible person to be in a room with, with a real deep warmth and humanity, and what she told me about her work with bodies and in war zones was truly fascinating. At one point I cried. Make sure you listen all the way through to the end of these episodes as in each one, after the main interview, a member of the band or someone close to us talks about their own experience of Death or working on the Dead Club project. In this one it’s our wild and wonderful genius guitarist / composer / arranger Ash, and it’s really special.

Dame Sue Black can be heard on band’s forthcoming album Tunng Presents…DEAD CLUB where her interview with Becky was sampled on “The Last Day.”

The new episode follows last week’s The DC Episode 1 interview between Sam and Max Porter – an English writer whose book Grief Is The Thing With Feathers was the catalyst for entire project. Porter can be heard on two tracks from the band’s forthcoming LP – “Man” and “Woman.” Porter wrote these pieces exploring death from the point of view of both the present day and deep time. For the album, Max read each and Tunng set them to music.

Tunng Presents The DEAD CLUB Podcast is a Stabl production and was made possible in part thanks to public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
