Two Leonard Cohen songs … with Jherek Bischoff & Neil Gaiman

Hello Dear Comrades…

we have two moments of leonard cohen for you, so please take off your hats and place them on your chest.

if you’re on my my patreon or social feeds, you probably already saw that we released a piano-and-strings version of “Everybody Knows,” in tribute to the late great Leonard Cohen, as an official patreon thing last week. (if you’re a patron and you missed the email with the download link, it’s HERE.)
i play piano, i sing, and jherek bischoff recorded a BEAUTIFUL arrangement for strings as well, in basel, switzerland (here’s a photo):

we’re really proud of it.

TODAY, we are unveiling “democracy” – a spoken word piece with me on piano, another beautiful jherek string-arrangement, and neil gaiman reading the lyrics.
we sent it as a surprise to the patrons the other day, and now it’s public: https://pen.org/donate-democracy
this recording brings me to tears and gives me goosebumps, given what is happening in our world. please go and listen to it.
instead of just putting it on bandcamp, we decided to give the track to PEN america, an organization that, in addition to defending persecuted writers, sponsors public literary programs and forums on current issues, sends prominent authors to inner-city schools to encourage reading and writing, administers literary prizes, promotes international literature that might otherwise go unread in the United States, and offers grants and loans to writers facing financial or medical emergencies. neil personally knows several writers who have fallen on hard times and needed the help of PEN…it’s a really important organization doing life-saving work, and in these upcoming Trump-times, we need them.

also, we’d decided to do a VERY LIMITED RUN of high-quality prints of vladimir’s “everybody knows” artwork.

limited to 150, all prints will be hand-numbered and signed by the artist. the prints are $100 and all proceeds will go to PEN america.
