THE UNDERCOVER HIPPY

REVEALS TIMELY NEW SINGLE: “RISE & FALL”

NEW ALBUM ‘TRUTH & FICTION’ – OUT 20th MAY 2017

SPRING UK TOUR DATES ON SALE NOW

“This is about as real as music gets!” – Andrew Marston – BBC Introducing
“This group are so ludicrously tight” – Gigsoup.co.uk

“Best surprise of the weekend was Undercover Hippy, former DJ Billy Rowan’s four-piece whose modern protest songs in a reggae and rap style were just fantastic. If you’re going to track down just one of these acts make it this one.” – Bournemouth Echo

With a snap general election thrust upon us and against a background of global nuclear powers flexing their ungainly muscles, there couldn’t be a more appropriate moment for the release of THE UNDERCOVER HIPPY’s new single “Rise & Fall”.

Released this week across all digital platforms, the track is the first single to be harvested from the eagerly anticipated new album ‘Truth & Fiction’ (out 20th May 2017). Like much of the album it precedes, “Rise & Fall” is a call to arms to those who feel powerless in the face of a world seemingly gone mad…

Listen to “Rise & Fall”

Despite it’s hard hitting lyrics and heavy basslines, the track oozes with summer good-times yet to be had and is a sure-fire festival anthem ready to storm the circuit in 2017.

Speaking about the track, The Undercover Hippy AKA Billy Rowan says:

“I wrote the track when Cameron and Osbourne were at their peak and seemed unstoppable. I got to thinking about how we give these powerful people and institutions more credit than they deserve, as if they aren’t just fallible humans like the rest of us, and how like the Roman Empire, eventually all great civilizations become complacent and corrupt and become victims of their own success. Hence the chorus line ‘Look around how many Romans do you see? Everything that rises must fall’. Hmm, that line might not work so well if we ever play Rome…”

Those already familiar with Billy’s music will know he is definitely not your average singer songwriter. After 7 years spent DJ’ing and MC’ing on the Drum & Bass circuit, Billy switched up identities, swapping the decks for a guitar as he began a new life with a new moniker in 2007: The Undercover Hippy was born. Touring relentlessly ever since, The Undercover Hippy brings together soulful vocals, infectious reggae rhythms, and the lyrical delivery of a skilled mc, with a charismatic style and playful sound that has had audiences rapt from day one.

Readying his first full length studio release since 2014’s ‘Monkey Suit’, the subversive DJ turned singer-songwriter makes his long overdue return later this year. Largely inspired-by and rallying-against much that has come to grip politics and society over the last 12 months, “Truth & Fiction” is  released on 20th May 2017 and delivers a much needed dose of passionate storytelling and thought provoking protest in pop.

With ‘Truth & Fiction’ ready to drop this May, The Undercover Hippy will also be hitting the road for a series of shows around the release. Backed by his full band, mixing guitars, keys, drums, bass, horns and backing vocals, Billy will once again be bringing UK audiences their renowned high energy, interactive and highly entertaining live show.
