The single was recorded in the winter of 2014 at Dave Fridmann’s Tarbox Road Studio in upstate New York as part of the album sessions and produced by The Vaccines, Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Tame Impala, MGMT) and Cole MGN (Ariel Pink, Beck, Nite Jewel).
It features the B-side Handsome Reimagined (Dave Fridmann edit), a reinterpretation of the track by Fridmann.
The track is accompanied by a fantastically riotous video, which sees the band taking on the roles of martial art trained vigilantes. The video was directed by CANADA, an international collective of directors based in Barcelona.
“We wanted to create a video that was a sort of bubblegum ode to cinema and, in particular, Hong Kong kung fu movies,” explains Justin Young of the band. “Music to me is entertainment, and escapism, and we wanted the video to be an extension of that. We want to create another world in which we can play aspirational and heightened versions of ourselves. We shot this through a winter’s night in a warehouse in Brooklyn, just before Christmas. No fun indeed. Gerson though, as Canada directors always seem to do, helped us escape and create exactly the world in which we wish we lived.”
The band have also announced a short UK tour in March and April playing exclusive, intimate shows visiting some regional towns and cities for the first time in their career. The band last toured the UK in May 2013 when they played a run of arena shows, including a performance at the O2 Arena in London.
The full list of shows is as follows:
27th Nottingham Rock City
28th Hartlepool Borough Hall
29th Glasgow Old Fruit Market
31st Scunthorpe Baths Hall
1st Manchester Albert Hall
3rd Portsmouth Pyramids
4th Bath Pavilion
5th Folkestone The Leas Cliff Hall
8th London Brixton Electric
The band released their debut album What Did You Expect From The Vaccines in 2011 and the follow up, Come Of Age,reached number one in the UK album charts on release in 2012.
The Vaccines will shortly announce full details of their new album, and a UK arena tour.
