Created during a particularly tumultuous time in Nutzman’s life that involved drug abuse, bank fraud, and a house fire, it’s unsurprising that Bulli would echo his present state of mind. Bulli feels anticipatory, often frantic and manic but, given the period of his life that it emerged from, its songs glimmer with a pop sheen as fragmentary soundscapes meld leftfield electronic sounds with alternative rock, power pop, even tender R&B and deft hip-hop.
To coincide with the release of Bulli, Nutzman shares visuals for the single ‘Georgia’, a song he says is “about hanging out in Reno, in and out of Mexican strip clubs and looking for drugs.”. Its video features Nutzman’s own hand-drawn sketches animated by Tiffany Pritchett.

Adopted into and raised by a conservative white evangelical Christian family in the Twin Cities, Jeremy Nutzman’s fundamentalist missionary mother drove him to virtuosity, both as a classically trained concert pianist and a competitive figure skater. He eventually left the church for Minneapolis’ music community and christened himself Velvet Negroni in 2016. Tours with Bon Iver and Tame Impala, being sampled on Kid Cudi and Kanye West’s ‘Feel The Love’ and a feature on a Bon Iver track followed and after signing to 4AD in 2019, Nutzman released his debut album NEON BROWN that same year.
