Videodrone: Depeche Mode • Courtney Love • Daughter • San Cisco
Here at Videodrone we must apologise for our absence last week, we were not taking our annual holiday but actually slipped into a coma due to the shock news that My Bloody Valentine had finally released their new album. We also blame that footage of Courtney Love covering a Jay Z track, but that is a different matter entirely.
But now were back! bringing you a filmic feltch of this weeks video nasties…
Depeche Mode were another act returning to prominence this week and they have unveiled the clip to their new single ‘Heaven’. I have plenty of time for DM but this is more of a solid album track than the blazing lead single from a come back record. Dave Gahan goes for some seriously over earnest hand gestures, like an X Factor auditionee frantically trying to impress the judging panel or perhaps a mime artist ‘flushing’ the chain after taking a shit.
As this single is called ‘Heaven’ it is predictably set inside a church as we are treated to a spectral light show and some people in funny masks, It is no wonder Martin L Gore looks a bit naffed off, he should go back to being blonde and that lovely Shirley Temple perm he sported for 30 years..

In ‘Wild Things’ by San Cisco we see a young couple captured by a freaky tribe of dirty faced Mad Max extras who I presume are meant to be cannibal kids. As the actual capture isn’t shown on screen I can only allude to the hipsters being seized on their way back from a Tribes gig or something.
Our plucky duo carry on singing their indie pop ditty, even as the horrible brats pour petrol over their pretty faces – frankly I would be screaming my tits off so you do have to admire the bands courage.
It seems that cannibal’s are however immune to San Cisco’s musical offering and proceed to torch the band alive, I can assure you that if San Cisco release a song entitled ‘eaten alive by sharks’ I will not be watching it’s accompanying promo video.

New 4ad band Daughter now and the video for their single ‘Still’.
This clip features a woman in a short skirt walking up some steps, and then a couple getting undressed for bed whilst looking really fucking miserable, perhaps they’re disappointed by that Depeche Mode track? Or maybe they really hate My Bloody Valentine? We don’t get to find out I’m afraid.
‘Still’ sounds like Adele if Adele was Bjork and Bjork was into Cocteau Twins and Bauhaus, which is actually meant as a compliment, this is all very nice and chilled out. Typical 4ad loveliness which gets a thumbs up from me.

Now it wouldn’t be fair to mention the Courtney Love cover without actually presenting it for you here in all it’s glory.. Not a promo clip, just a live recording but I felt that you had to see this. Genius? Absolute shite? I shall let you make up your own minds..
