Vilde drops off-kilter visuals to recent single ‘Maintain’; by turns pleasing and disturbing…
Vilde ~ ‘Maintain’ (Music Video)
“VILDE’s style should call on associations of other heady artists who effortlessly combine emotive and intelligent lyrics with danceable beats and delicious synth arpeggios, yet you’ll find that it stands alone, steadfast and well-defined.” The Music Ninja
“the VILDE project will surely go from strength to strength.” The Line of Best Fit
Australian-born, Stockholm-based alt.pop artist Thomas Savage, AKA Vilde, releases the video to the driving, intelligent and infectious ‘Maintain’.
Creating a collage of by turns pleasing and discomforting imagery, Vilde paints a dark, intense picture in-line with the swirling sonics of his acclaimed single in this video created by Liam Warton.
Building his debut album piece by piece, dropping a new single each month, the ex-Kins frontman upped the tempo on the stand-out cut ‘Maintain’. Synth arpeggios cascade and unwind, cold electronic bleeps build suspense, before Savage’s claustrophobic vocals usher in the relentless drums and bass that drive the track forward at an invigorating pace.
Whilst taking cues from the likes of Radiohead, Wild Beasts, TV on the Radio, BØRNS and Tim Hecker, Vilde’s sound nonetheless remains resolutely his own. Termed ‘study-dance’, the atmospheric and sophisticated yet warm style resonates just as well with Shoreditch’s sweat-stained, beer-soaked Old Blue Last and Berlin’s painfully cool Berghain, two venues Vilde will be taking in this July with Foreign/National.
Elaborating on the themes behind ‘Maintain’, Vilde explains “The subject matter of the song is somewhat of a crammed amalgamation of ideas. Part inspired by the film ‘Ace in the Hole’, where a news reporter begins to twist events in a dark way to gain fame through his portrayal of the story. There’s some pretty bleak imagery in the lyrics, yet bits of optimism seep through too, provoking a sense of solitude, release & calm.”
