Volcanoes – ‘Monkey. Gossip. Cross. Tessaract’ (released November 22nd)

The ghost of With Guitars towers has struck again; either that or it is some twisted conspiracy, the press release that should be with the Volcanoes new single, has vanished. So here is what I gleamed from the band’s My Space official site. Volcanoes hail from Sheffield, they play alternative indie-rock, then mix with it with a dose of post Art Brut leanings, shed loads of nifty song arrangements and twangs of originality, I like it when they don’t always do what you expect. On that topic, it serves them well. According to their own MySpace – they are unsigned, hope that a good label, may well come knocking soon. On their blog, suffice to say, that at least one band member doesn’t rate Max Clifford very highly, apart from that you know what I do.

So how good are this South / West Yorkshire outfit. Expect like Club Smith, they have been Yorkshire’s secret for a few years. Think one listen to ‘Monkey. Gossip. Cross. Tessaract’ and track 2, ‘Who’s The Bad Child’ would win over eight outta ten. I am with the eight. 7.5/10
