WAAX release Christmas single & live video

RELEASE KILLER LIVE VIDEO &

DROP NEW SINGLE ‘HOLY SICK’

Two tours, filling rooms in four states, dropping a debut EP and slaying festival after festival. The year has ended on the highest of highs for Brisbane’s WAAX and to celebrate, they’ve bottled up their infectious stage presence into a bedlam-infused live video for EP title track and new single ‘Holy Sick’.

For anyone who has seen WAAX live this year, this early Christmas gift is a welcome chance to relive the addictive energy emanating from the stage at every show. For those who missed out, it’s a taste of how this band, led by formidable front-person Marie DeVita has emerged in 2015 as an unstoppable live force. Shot just last Friday (by Jaymis Loveday & team) at the band’s final headline show at Black Bear Lodge last week, it’s an invigorating end to the year for a band that are poised and ever-ready to demolish what lies ahead in 2016.

There’s plenty on the horizon for this Brisbane fivesome. As WAAX’s single ‘I for an Eye’ continues to infiltrate triple j airwaves like an untamed beast, they are preparing to support genre bending riot girl, Ecca Vandal on a thrilling mission around Australia in February/March.

Praise continues to roll in for the band both on and off the stage. ‘Utterly terrifying’, ‘ape-shit’, ‘an unstoppable force’ – all words that have surfaced this year since the band blew the roof off BIGSOUND, performed at Maroochy Festival, Brisbane’s Valley Fiesta and Festival of the Sun. Last week they took out Queensland Band of the Year at the AU Review Awards and just last month,Rolling Stone described WAAX as “a short, sharp, sonic kick to the face that will leave you humming their melodies while picking your teeth off the floor.”

Currently writing a slew of new tunes with a strong musical foot pointed towards progression, this video is but a blip in the cosmos for WAAX as they tip off one hell of a year and look forwards to an even bigger one.

PRAISE FOR WAAX

“A short, sharp, sonic kick to the face that will leave you humming their melodies while picking your teeth off the floor.”
Rod Yates, Rolling Stone AU

“It’s a full-blown aural assault right from the outset, the punishing ball of energy that does exactly what it came to – kick your face in and then insist that you immediately beg for more.”

Jonny Nail, Rolling Stone AU

“Angsty, edgy, eccentric. Perfect balance of rowdiness and real hooks”

Linda Marigliano, triple j

“This is hard rock that rocks hard; music that spits in your face and knocks your drink out of your hand and you can’t do anything about it.”

James Frostick, Who The Hell

“The song hangs off DeVita’s adolescent angst and riot grrl defiance, sandwiched between a barrage of drum rolls and noisy guitar.”

The Guardian AU (on ‘I for an Eye’)

LIVE SHOW PRAISE

“Every band that has blown me away at BIGSOUND has been fronted by a woman. WAAX just now, another case in point, killer.”

Zan Rowe, triple j

“Blistering their way through a short set, front woman Marie DeVita cemented herself as an unstoppable force, twisting, contorting and just going all around ape-shit on the stage.”

Larry Heath, The AU Review

“It’s clear that De Vita just wants to scream, and her onstage presence is enthralling, wide eyed and powerfully capable she can appear as if she is staring right into the souls of her spectators.”

Jonty Czuchwicki, Happy
