Wallice releases new EP ‘Mr Big Shot’ + listen to new single ‘Prepaid Wireless’

The wait is over with Wallice releasing her highly anticipated new EP, Mr Big Shot, via Dirty Hit. The EP hailed another exciting chapter for the LA artist as anticipation continues to grow for her debut album. Wallice tells us; “Mr Big Shot is my third EP. It’s the most mature music I’ve made yet. It’s hard to put the difference into concrete terms, but sonically it’s a step up from my last work. I’m so proud of it. This EP continues to deal with growing up (a process that is ongoing, even at my age of 25). There are even a few love songs – my version of a love song, anyway.”

To celebrate the release of Mr Big Shot Wallice is releasing ‘Prepaid Wireless‘; a song which follows previous singles, the subdued, Radiohead-esque ‘disappear,’ the raucous pop-punk cut, ‘Loser at Best’ and the nostalgic lead single ‘Best Friend.’ On the new track Wallice shares, “This song was started with one of my favorite artists, Jonny Pierce from The Drums, who I’ve listened to since I was in high school. When the song was written, my mother was moving from Los Angeles to Georgia– it was a huge change and took a lot of getting used to. When she lived in LA, I would see my Mom multiple times a week; since she moved, I only see her a couple times a year. To be honest I’m still getting used to it – but when I was writing “Prepaid Wireless,” it felt like my world was changing drastically. Even though it’s a song about my mom, I think it can easily sound like a song about a romantic interest as well. It’s hard to get used to change, and this song confronts that.”

Currently on the road for her North American headline tour, Wallice spent a large stretch of 2023 so far touring through Australia, New Zealand and Asia with The 1975, and is fresh from a string of UK headline shows and further The 1975 support date in Vienna. Having packed out rooms in Glasgow, Manchester and London’s Moth Club earlier this month, Wallice is set to return to the UK this August for Reading and Leeds Festivals before heading back to Australia for SXSW Sydney in October. Swiftly earmarked as one of indie pop’s most exciting new voices, Wallice has become synonymous for her wry, self-effacing anthems capturing Gen Z anxieties – championed by the likes of Vogue, New York Times, The FADER, BBC Radio 1, Steve Lamacq, Zane Lowe, NME and many more.

After picking up her first instrument at age 6, Wallice started writing songs in middle school and later played in her high school band, inspired by the lyricism of Thom Yorke, Lana Del Rey and the punky irreverence of Weezer and No Doubt. She also modeled and acted (once appearing in an episode of Frasier) throughout adolescence. A proud college dropout, she attended the New School in New York City for Jazz Vocal performance for a year before moving back to California and connecting with childhood friend and fellow artist marinelli, who helped her hone the wistful indie pop style that led to her rise. Following the 2021 release of her debut EP Off the Rails, she signed to Dirty Hit, sold-out her first headline shows including at The Lexington in London, and support tours for Beabdoobee, Still Woozy, chloe moriondo, Wallows and JAWNY. Her second EP 90s American Superstar pushed Wallice even further, chronicling the rise and fall of a fictional celebrity across five cutting, tongue-in-cheek tracks. With the release of Mr Big Shot, Wallice pushed her script forward once again.
