Recent praise for the new Chilly Gonzales album, ‘GONZO’

“It’s astute, really – having addressed the elephants in the room, he’s free to provoke thought and amusement in equal measure” – MOJO

“Like Eminem’s classically trained cousin” – UNCUT

“Just about the most fun you can have with a piano while keeping your bathrobe on” – The Spectator

“Sophistication wins out” – The Times

Today, Chilly Gonzales is releasing the video for his current single ‘Neoclassical Massacre’, which you can watch here. The single explores one of the main topics he wrestled with on his new album ‘Gonzo’, and you can read about here in a self-penned piece for The Quietus. The video continues to poke fun at the faceless genre of bland music he takes aim at so eloquently in the song.

“It’s usually a forest, or a mountainside, or a beach. Ideally, it’s an otherworldly volcanic terrain, maybe in Iceland. A piano sits conspicuously in the middle of this landscape, as a pianist with eyes closed exaggerates the effort required to present some familiar arpeggios on the white keys. This is Neoclassical music, a genre I may have birthed, and I hate myself for it.”

As Chilly Gonzales’ show at the Royal Albert Hall edges closer he is drip feeding exciting details about what promises to be a very special evening. The latest update was very big indeed, with news that indie legend, and his Room 29 collaborator, Jarvis Cocker will be joining him onstage at the prestigious venue. This follows the recent announcement that comedian and actor Peter Serafinowicz – creator of comic legend Brian Butterfield and YT series Sassy Trump – is the official opening act. Get your tickets here.

Chilly Gonzales recently released his new album ‘Gonzo’, which sees the entertainer flip seamlessly between his piano and rapping, keeping the listener on their toes throughout. Behind the wordplay and name-dropping (Ron Jeremy, Marie Kondo, Genghis Khan and Philip Glass to cite a few) the songs that made it to the new album reveal an ongoing tension between persuasion and confession, delusion and self-awareness and finally, gratitude. The tension between creativity and commerce also continues to be a career-long exploration for Chilly Gonzales. You can read his recent article for The Quietus here, in which he discusses his thoughts on the neoclassical subgenre he helped birth.

With a rich and diverse back catalogue, ranging from his Solo Piano Trilogy (whose first record is 20 years old this year), to collaborative albums with Boys Noize, Jarvis Cocker and Plastikman and a best-selling Christmas record and TV special A Very Chilly Christmas, Chilly Gonzales has garnered a large and loyal fanbase over his career. Always pushing boundaries and subverting the norm, his audience excitedly follows each musical path he leads them down.

Following the release of his first French-language album ‘French Kiss’ last year, Chilly Gonzales performed to an intimate, sold out crowd at EartH in Dalston. This follows his previous London headline show at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall alongside Jarvis Cocker for Christmas 2021. He gave fans a preview of the new album at Edinburgh International Festival in August and also performed at the opening ceremony for the Paralympic Games in Paris in the summer.
