Premiered on Paper Magazine. New Album Red Weather Out Now on Lost Colony Music.

New York singer/songwriter Sophie Auster released her new album Red Weather earlier this month. Paper Magazine has just premiered the video for the lead single “Run, Run, Run”. Watch the video here – please post and share. The skittering beat and angular piano melody of “Run, Run, Run” underpin a seductively feral vocal from Sophie full of longing and caution. The haunting video conjures nervous splendor as Sophie serenades a ballroom of people consumed by their own relationships who don’t notice her at first but slowly become entranced.

Sophie released her first album when she was 16. The album was a collaboration with Brooklyn-based musicians One Ring Zero. She drew lyrical inspiration from her father’s (author Paul Auster) English translations of French surrealist poems. The album was highly acclaimed in France and quickly found an audience throughout Europe.

Following that album, she met writer/musician Barry Reynolds who has worked with Rufus Wainright, Marianne Faithful, Antony & the Johnsons and Grace Jones and began collaborating on material. The album features the first recording of “Square Moon” a track co-written by Barry and Antony Hegarty (Antony & the Johnsons).
