White Miles – ‘Fake Smile’

Stoner rock when spliced with a healthy dose of blues, in my book always sounds better more fuzzed up and that’s the case with  White Miles and the new ‘Fake Smile’ single. The band  will be releasing their debut album on 12th May, but until then if you need an introduction, ‘Fake Smile’ single will suffice nicely. We will not have to wait much longer to see them wandering these shores in May, as main support  to Courtney Love when she tours over here. The new single is the first to be taken from the debut album ‘job: genius, diagnose: madness’ described as “a cruise through the deep and dark Atlantic ocean”. The band consist of Medina (guitar/vocals) and Lofi (drums/vocals) that deliver a bigger sound together.

‘Fake Smile’ is more beefed up, with a meaty (sorry) guitar sound, the percussion and vocal are suitably energised, the lyrics here are concerned with darker matter of a drug-induced “I’m fine” fake smile. Must be getting too old or something, when you enjoy more of dark than the poppy light, a band with more substance like White Miles, on this form, wins most of the time. ‘Fake Smile’ will seduce many friends. 8/10
