With conversational lyrics that tug at the heartstrings and an ocean of haunting melodies shrouded in delicately woven sonics, WIDE SKIES are a quiet storm, a whispered maelstrom. Vocalist Hannah Caughlin has the endearing softness of Natasha Khan but together with her bandmate Jamie McDonald they achieve a merge not unlike Nico and Lou Reed.
Inspired by luminaries such as Feist, Kate Bush, Elbow, Fleetwood Mac and Burt Bacharach, WIDE SKIES’ magic is evolving at a rate of knots. The sound of Folk, Soul and 60’s pop woven and enmeshed with Hannah and Jamie’s British Indie roots. Hannah previously brought her vocal and writing talents to The Accidental, The Memory Band, The Bicycle Thieves and notable pop producers Xenomania.
Wide Skies will play this coming Sunday 29th March @ The Islington as part of the Big Mini Festival (stage time 7.15)
Jamie’s previous incarnation was in the band South who released four albums on Mo’Wax and Sanctuary as well as touring with The Strokes and Ian Brown. He has recently spent time as a tour guitarist with Finley Quaye and Nicolai Fraiture of The Strokes. Supported by the brilliant musicianship of Ascher Nathan (keyboards), Alister Wedderburn (bass) and Dav Shiel (drums), WIDE SKIES are set to ignite their beautiful shimmering airy textures around the globe in 2015
Debut single ‘Take Care Of Love’ was initially promo’d at the tail end of last year, where it was was featured by Lauren Laverne on her 6music show, making it her ‘headphones moment’. It was also featured on the Robert Elms show on BBC London where the band performed a live session.
