“Relishing the opportunity to disregard borders after spending 2023 touring by yacht, Yann Tiersen’s new double LP combines eight introspective piano pieces with five brasher electronic tracks.” – Uncut: 8/10

“…marries introspection with righteous resistance” – MOJO: 4*

“Melancholy majesty” – Record Collector: 4*

Yann Tiersen has embarked on the next stage of his ongoing extensive tour. The tour, which has so far seen him perform a sold-out Barbican show, several performances at Glastonbury festival, at the climate activist blockade at Norway’s Mongstad oil refinery with AURORA, and across the Arctic on his boat, Ninnog. The autumn / winter tour will see Tiersen perform across Europe, with dates including Berlin’s Huxleys (with Sunroof [Daniel Miller & Gareth Jones]), Le Rockomotives festival in Vendôme, and Glasgow’s Celtic Connections – full details, including the newly announced shows in UK and Ireland, below.

Watch Tiersen’s mesmerising performance of “Caledonian Canal” as he sails through the Monacobreen Glacier in Svalbard HERE, shot during his ambitious tour of Arctic waters.

Talking about the Arctic tour, Tiersen says: “Our tour is more than music – it’s about rethinking the role of art in a world facing climate collapse. Norway, a country navigating the tension between oil exploitation and progressive ideals, provides the perfect context for this exploration. From the philosophies of Arne Næss to the harsh realities of Svalbard, where climate change is most extreme, we’re inspired to push for radical action. This isn’t a traditional tour. We’ll be performing in unconventional spaces, sometimes for free, because we believe music should not revolve around profit. the capitalist norms of touring need to disappear; instead, we’re focusing on sustainability and connection. this is about proving another way is possible, where creativity thrives without exploitation.”

This year saw the release of Rathlin from a Distance | The Liquid Hour, one album divided into two distinct, interconnected parts, each with its own unique sonic characteristics. Rathlin from a Distance is introspective, meditating on identity while The Liquid Hour is electronic and dynamic, to fuel an uprising against the systems that bind us.

The album release was punctuated with singles like of “Rathlin from a Distance“, a meditation on identity that highlights Tiersen’s exceptional piano playing, and “Ninnog at Sea“, an electronic anthem blending Tiersen’s seafaring reflections into a dynamic track that pulses with rage, hope, and the call to dismantle and rebuild for a radiant collective future. Yann’s most recent releases are “Arne“, an expansive and hypnotic soundscape interwoven with QUINQUIS’ ethereal vocals and “Caledonian Canal“, a masterclass of stripped back tenderness.
