Yo La Tengo – ‘For You Too’ (Matador Records)
Creatively Yo La Tengo’s accomplished world has become more interesting if not near to full tilt, least compared to recent times with their first original full-length in 5 years titled ‘There’s a Riot Going On’ to be released March 16th, with the trio of Georgia Hubley, Ira Kaplan and James McNew are the only musicians on the record.
‘For You Too’ is the latest track to be unveiled from said album and strikes a chord from the off. The new single has been described as “Utterly gorgeous, evocative” through to “niccce” since I pulled the headphones out and shared with others publically on repeated loop, to which I whole-heartily subscribe, also subversive seductive alt-indie in a more subtle methodology. Matched with warm heartfelt delivery, “For you / whenever there’s hurt / and things are uncertain / Maybe I could be that guy / I’d like to try.” with enough drive to disturb a folk singer.
As a key to March’s new album, . ‘For You Too’ is a grand re-introduction, 8.2/10
