Jamie Zilm is a multi-instrumentalist/vocalist/radio presenter originally from the small country town of Bordertown, South Australia. He currently resides in Adelaide, working on original solo material hoping to release a full length album when he feels it’s ready.
His EP was recorded in Zilm’s makeshift home studio at his home in Adelaide. It features production from both himself and his long time friend/musical collaborator, Mason Jupe, who also did the final mix and master.
Life Is Like is a heavy rock/rap song with a touch of funk, similar to Rage Against The Machine or early Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Each verse starts with a dream before discussing the ups and downs of life, work, gigging, travels, and never giving up despite how tough things become. It then explodes into a heavy chorus explaining what Life Is Like.
The EP was influenced by world travel, struggles of mental health and ‘the system’. The music was mainly created from jamming on loops and inspired by “tasty European jams” while Zilm was traveling around Europe with his guitar and a backpack mid-2016.
‘Funk The System’ EP sounds like a young rapper/guitarist pouring his soul out over heavy guitar-driven funk with a touch of jazz/fusion.
After numerous projects, including being one half of the house party favourite ‘Wing It’, rap group ‘D&J’ and playing in other bands, Zilm currently resides in Adelaide working on original solo material. While performing live he has been known to use a loop pedal while still providing his guitar heavy funk driven raps about life experiences and ‘the system’. Also noticeable about his performances is he both raps and plays guitar, which is not often seen.
