Get Out is a song about acknowledging how difficult and relentless life can be, but how we have to accept that in order to be happy. The remorseless pendulum of time carries on swinging regardless. We get older, life goes on – “You can’t change your heart or your hairline.”
“The title of the song and final phrase of each chorus “Get Out” is me telling my own negative conscience to go away and leave me alone, so that I can try to live in the moment and feel content.” explains songwriter Ronan Van Kehoe
Get Out was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in late 2019, mixed by Alex from the band at home in London in early 2021, and mastered by Carl Saff in Chicago.
LYRICS
Most nights I feel like putting my brain on ice for just a little while
I need to escape this life for just a little while
That’s not what you told me, you said that you’d owe me a mile
Someone’s been telling lies
I’m feeling pretty heavy, yeah my brain is like spaghetti carbonara
No you can’t change your heart or your hairline
Sometimes we all fall apart
But we’ll be fine
Now get out
Most nights I’ve been having bad dreams
That’s not a metaphor, I mean literally bad dreams
It’s hard to know what they mean, I haven’t seen you since two thousand and something
And in a flash on the screen we watch the sugar tower crumble to nothing
I’m nothing and you’re nothing
Everything on the news is like horses to glue
and everything that we do doesn’t matter
Everything on the news leaves me grey and confused
and everything that we say goes to waste
No you can’t change your heart or your hairline
Sometimes we all fall apart
But we’ll be fine
Yeah I bet we’ll be fine
No you can’t change your heart or your hairline
Sometimes we all fall apart
But we’ll be fine
Now get out
